Mother attends 2013 Terry Fox Run with family to support cancer victims

By Melvin Gomez, Centennial Journalism

The 33rd annual Terry Fox Run took pace on Sunday. Millions of Canadians participated in this nationwide event to support the Terry Fox foundation.

The Markham-Unionville run site had about 700 participants running, walking or biking. Markham-Unionville has been participating 31 out of the 33 years. The committee reached its goal with $70,000 in donations.

Meet Sharifah Yaseen, 32, a nurse. She ran with her family. Cancer has hit too close to home. Yaseens’s mother and husband are both cancer survivors. Yaseen’s mother’s oncologist motivated her to run.

This was Yaseen’s first time doing the Terry Fox Run.

She tells Centennial Journalism’s Melvin Gomez why she plans to come back next year to continue to support fellow cancer survivors. Listen here.
