Scarborough grandmother, 89, walks for Terry Fox, and for her three children

by Xueting Zhao, Centennial Journalism

Doris Spencer had five children; three of them died of cancer. She was one of the participants at Sunday’s 2013 Terry Fox Run. Spencer says while sometimes life treats people in a merciless way, we should always try to perceive things with a positive attitude.  She considers herself and her husband, 93, lucky because at least their children had the chance while they were fighting the disease to know that their parents loved them. She told Centennial Journalism’s Xueting Zhao why she has persisted in participating in this run for 27 years.
