NOW FREE, CUBAN YOUTH REMEMBERS HIS PAST

Wilfredo Gonzalez

By Roxana Chiriac, Centennial Journalism

At 22, Wilfredo Gonzalez recalls leading a life full of struggle and denial in the communist-governed Cuba. Growing up in his hometown, Havana, he faced  challenges such as the denial of personal opinion, living under fear of a threatening regime, restriction to the outside world and its ideals, and no chance of pursuing a life based on his own choices. Now living in Toronto, where he’s waiting for citizenship, Gonzalez told his story to Centennial Journalism’s Roxana Chiriac (wocksee.com).
